{Brave and Brilliant | A guest blog}

I begin this guest post with an humble honoring of my old town school friend, Sara of Saratography. She is just as I remember her in school, brave and brilliant.

Brave in the way, that she went against our crowd in high school and shared some valuable information to my best friend (at the time) that there was some back talking about her and, ahem, that I was the one that was back talking. She stood up for her beliefs and pettiness was not in her game. I lost both their friendships for a bit and luckily, they forgave my trespasses and I gained some wisdom.

What I learned from this is a fellow human sister friend acting bravely and with integrity is what true friendship and living with heart means.

{Finding My Voice | Upstate New York Lifestyle Photography}

In my head, this subject is so cut and dry, but in reality it’s not as simple as it seems. As I write this post, I am praying for courage; courage to see this thing through to the end. Because, you see, I’ve found my voice. And now that I’ve found it, I need to use it to share what happened, because if this is happening to me, it’s happening to others too, and that is NOT okay with me.

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Children}

Ok, so this is my very last top 10 list of the year, and by far the hardest one to narrow down! I knew I’d had a busy year in 2011, but I really didn’t take into account how many gorgeous children I’ve met and been lucky enough to photograph! It has been 24 days since I started narrowing this project down for these lists, and I honestly it would be done in like, the first week, but obviously that didn’t happen! So here I am, almost a full month into the new year, and finally finishing up my most daunting task since the 3.6.5.! So away we go, with my top 10 captures of Children in 2011! ♥

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Couples}

So, as I was making my lists of ‘Top 10′ images, it occurred to me that wedding couples were getting all the glory here. I mean, sure, it makes sense that a photographer who shoots weddings would do a weddings top 10, but, I asked myself, what about all the couples that WEREN’T the bride and groom when I captured them? Are they any less special because I captured them on a regular day rather than their big day(s)? The answer was no. The couples I captured this year are JUST AS important as the weddings, or the children, or any other category you’ve seen here on my lists. So, with that thought in mind, I set out to make a top 10 list for all the couples I’ve captured….the moms and dads who are eclipsed by their children, and the newly engaged couples just starting out. With that in mind, here is my top 10 couples list for 2011!

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Families}

Families are a ton of fun to capture. There’s nothing like being the lucky one to capture the (special) relationship between parents and their children. The bond is always unique and full of love, and SO fun to capture! I was very lucky this year; nearly every shoot I did was (supposed to be) centered around the little ones, but in nearly every case I was able to convince the parents that at least a FEW family captures were necessary! Anyway, without further adieu, here are a few of my very favorites from 2011 in the family category!

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Newborns}

So, if you’ve seen my posts in the last couple of days, you’re already aware of what this is; a wrap up of 2011 in true David Letterman Style! :) I am counting down my top 10 favorite images of 2011 in a variety of subjects, but today is for my teeny-tiniest clients! The Newborns!!

I’m not going to lie; newborns are some of my most difficult subjects; mostly because there is no predicting what they’ll do, and there is no scripting them, or bribing them; newborns have a total mind of their own! Even with that said, I’ve been (SUPER) blessed this year to have a ton of gorgeous, super sleepy, and VERY easy to work with clients. Here are a few of the highlights! ♥

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Wedding Details}

Last night I shared my top 10 wedding images of 2011 {to see that post, click here} today, I am sharing with you my next top 10 list; the Top 10 Wedding Details of 2011! This was another difficult list to make for me (seriously, it was like pulling teeth). There is nothing harder (for me at least) than trying to narrow down my ‘favorite’ images; it’s like choosing which child I love the most….ok, well not quite that extreme, but still…you get the idea. It was so difficult, in fact, that it’s taken me nearly the whole first month of the new year to do this!

Wedding details, to me, set the tone for the entire wedding; the colors, the textures. Details to me, come in lots of different shapes and sizes; from the wedding favors to the flowers, and all the way around to the different little bits and pieces that make a wedding what it is. Here, for your viewing pleasure, are my top 10 ‘details’ captures of 2011!

The {Top 10 Images} of 2011 {Weddings}

So, the new year has come, and now that we’re well and truly into 2012, I’ve been working {HARD} at narrowing down my images from the last year, in hopes of bringing you a few little top 10 lists…..this one, in particular, is for my couples. The BIG day….the weddings. ♥

Weddings are always an adventure, and each one is special and unique to the couple, and ALWAYS full of surprises! You might think that after a while, one wedding would run into another, but that just doesn’t happen. Each one is so full of love, and promise, and happiness. There is just nothing like it. With that said, here are my Top Ten Wedding moments from 2011.

I can {Rock The Shot!}

So, as you likely know, I SUPER-SQUISHY-LOVE photo contests. ♥ Now, with that said, how could it be any better that this contest comes from a site I ADORE and run by women who truly rock my socks off! If you’re a photographer, and you’ve never heard of the Rock The Shot, you’re missing out bigtime! We have the sweetest folks and the greatest photogs and vendors around! (Just sayin’) Anywho….I digress. For August, the contest is Silhouettes. These are a complete personal favorite of mine. When I saw this, I knew immediately what picture I would be entering. My Rock Star picture, of course!

Seriously, though.

Last October I was approached by a local musician who needed some pictures done for publicity stuff; posters, and also for an upcoming CD project. (!! Yes, my picture is on a CD!!) While I was shooting, and he was playing and singing, I was struck by inspiration. The covered bridge we were shooting at provided the most perfect backdrop for this capture, and I ♥ the shape of the man and his instrument. (Click on the image to enlarge)

{1500?! Seriously?!}

So, if you follow me on facebook (which you must do to be entered in this giveaway; and can do by clicking here ) you know I’ve just hit 1500 fans. This is a HUGE number, I think, in anyone’s book, but I’m especially stoked because it has taken me just under 18 months to grow my business this much.

How, you might ask? Well, mostly you should all thank yourselves the way I’m thanking you. ♥ If it weren’t for you wonderful people hiring me, then telling friends about me, and my facebook page, it would have NEVER happened. Because of this, I want to say thank you in a big way. Once again, you might ask ‘how’, especially considering that not all of you are local fans, but never fear; I have a plan for giving away this (pretty darn big) 16×20 print.
